James Ijames
Playwright, Director, Actor, Educator
James Ijames is a Philadelphia-based multi-hyphenate theatre artist. Originally from North Carolina, Ijames has earned degrees in Drama and Acting from Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA) and Temple University (Philadelphia, PA). In recent years, several of his plays have gone into production, including Kill Move Paradise andYouth in the current Philadelphia theatre season. In 2018, Ijames was chosen as the winner of the Kesselring Prize, and named one of 32 “Black Male Writers for Our Time” by the New York Times. Ijames has performed with companies all over Philadelphia, most recently in Completeness by Itamar Moses, at Theatre Exile. Ijames is currently an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Villanova University, where he teaches playwriting and performance.
